The Golden Chopsticks Awards will now be held on Monday 27th September 2021
Given the ongoing uncertainty around the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the UK we have taken the decision to delay the Golden Chopsticks Awards (GCAs) night to September 27th. The awards evening was originally due to take place during lockdown on 27th April 2020, however, to safeguard against COVID-19, and the spread of the coronavirus, we have decided to postpone.
The GCAs celebrates the achievements and contributions of the East and South East Asian community to the British food sector. The awards have earned its reputation for being a fun-filled night, with an exceptional atmosphere of camaraderie and support, and is attended by restaurateurs, suppliers, food services businesses, food writers and press. We are very proud of the reputation and momentum that the GCAs has gathered and feel next year is a more appropriate time to hold such a celebration of East and South East Asian cuisine. We hope that by this time the Coronavirus situation will have improved and we can come together as a community to celebrate, after what will have been a very difficult time for businesses in the catering and hospitality sector, and of course the whole UK economy.
Will the voting be affected by the change of event date?
The public voting for this year’s GCAs closed on Thursday 12th of March and the results exceeded our expectations. The delay of the physical event will not affect the votes collected in any way. We achieved 20,000 votes last year, which was a phenomenal increase on the first year’s 4,000 votes. Our aim was to reach 30,000 votes this year, however, we are thrilled to announce we received close to 49,500 votes. A staggering increase on the previous year. We have collected and counted all the votes and finalists for each category will be contacted with an official announcement ahead of awards night on the 27th September.
In the words of Ken Hom, The Golden Chopsticks Awards Head Judge ‘I am thrilled with the amazing response to the voting this year which shows our solidarity and support for our restaurant community in the UK. We face challenging times ahead, but I am looking forward to celebrating all your hard work in a magical night next February! Together we will be stronger.’
Ceremony Night Tickets
Tickets to the awards ceremony are now on sale and we recommend securing them as early as possible as the previous 2 years have sold out at least a month before awards night. We have already sold 50% of the tickets!!!
Finally, we were delighted to see the very positive public response to the launch of the 2021 Golden Chopsticks Awards campaign - the only awards to recognise Oriental cuisine in the UK, and the largest event of its kind worldwide.
